Hearing Aid Accessories

Once you’ve been diagnosed with a hearing problem that can be improved with a hearing aid, you’ll have to start in on the search for the hearing aid that best suits your situation. Your audiologist will be your primary source of information to guide you towards the proper device.

Besides the actual hearing aid, though, there are a wide variety of hearing aid accessories, like behind-the-ear hearing aid accessories, Sheff hearing aid equipment (or Sheffy hearing aid equipment), Sheffy hearing aid equipment calibration products and others, which you should (and need) to look into to both enhance the performance of your hearing aid and maintain its efficacy.

There are really two unofficial classes of hearing aid accessories. The first category includes accessories that enhance the performance of your hearing aid. Digital microphones are included in this category. These microphones, as mentioned before, give your hearing aid the ability to hear sounds that originate in front of you over noise from other directions; theoretically, this should improve your ability to focus on a particular sound over background noise.

Telephone adapters are also in this category. Adapters of this nature, also called telecoils, allow you to hear better when talking on the phone. Other accessories include telephone pads to attach to telephone receivers; these pads will help reduce feedback commonly experienced when a hearing aid is close to a receiver.

The second category includes hearing aid cleaning accessories and items that have the purpose of allowing your aid to work properly and possibly enhance your comfort when using your device. For example, you can find antibacterial cetylcide spray that can be sprayed on ear molds to clean and deodorize them. This spray should be applied every night to ensure comfort and fewer problems with ear wax. There are also creams that contain compound myrcia spirit, glycerol and alcohol that can be used for general ear hygiene, and especially to help sooth irritated ears. In addition, you can also purchase wipes to clean and disinfect hearing aids and hearing aid vacuum cleaners.

An essential accessory to keep your hearing aid’s sound quality and life at maximum levels is a hearing aid dehumidifier. Moisture and condensation are responsible for severely damaging hearing aid electronic components to the point of impairing their function, oftentimes completely. At this point, you’ll have to spend money to either buy a new hearing aid or repair the damaged parts. Hearing aid dehumidifiers have the job of removing damaging moisture from hearing aids. There are a variety of models, including simple jars into which you can place you hearing aid overnight.

You can purchase clips to secure your hearing aid more securely to your ear, battery testers that come on key chains, products to reduce ear wax, hearing aid testing equipment and hearing aid kits that contain a number of different accessories together in one portable case. Discuss what accessories are recommended for your situation and device with your audiologist.
