Ear Muffs

You should always try to protect your ears from all situations that could be potentially detrimental, as they are very delicate parts of your body; hearing impairments can be very uncomfortable and lead to problems socializing and functioning in general. When you’re exposed to inclement weather or very noisy environments, you can turn to ear muffs to protect your hearing.

There are essentially two types of ear muffs. One type, which some people call “winter ear muffs”, has the function of warming your ears when the weather is cold or hostile. The second type, or hearing protection ear muffs, is made for protecting you from excessive noise; they are constructed so as to cut out loud, harmful sounds. You’ll often see these earmuffs being worn by people who work in factories, or other places that are characterized by loud noises; these places, however, should comply with governmental regulations to try and maintain safe noise levels for ear muffs as often as possible. Around the house, these earmuffs are worn when operating certain power tools. There are also shooting ear muffs, worn when hunting or at the shooting range; shooting muffs also come in the form of electronic ear muffs, which allow shooters to communicate with each other without having to scream.

Ear protection ear muffs should be worn whether or not you have an already existing hearing problem. Indeed, even people with hearing aids are recommended to wear ear muffs over their hearing aids; this will protect any further hearing damage due to noise pollution or infection.

Many audiologists prefer ear muffs over other protective items. They are relatively easy to adjust, take off and replace if need be and so they are perfect as temporary devices. Indeed, you will not always find yourself in a loud environment or in terrible weather and you will need something that is not a hassle to take off once you are in a location free of ear damaging conditions.

Audiologists also consider ear muffs superior because they are able to cover your whole ears and therefore can theoretically afford more protection. They cover your whole ear because they are worn over it and this is also more sanitary than inserting plugs within your ear. They are also more comfortable, usually, than other devices, and they can be worn on sensitive ears and if you have a mild ear infection. They come in a wide variety of styles.

Ear muff designs can vary, especially depending on whether you are purchasing hearing protection/noise cancelling ear muffs or a weather protection model. Essentially, all ear muffs have some kind of material to cover your both your ears in their entirety and are held together by a head band. Weather protection models are available as bandless ear muffs, fox fur ear muffs, ear muffs and warmers and ear muffs for men and women. Noise reduction ear muffs, like Peltor ear muffs and Radians ear muffs, can be sold as face shields with ear muffs attached.
